JUBILEE CUP FINAL REPORT
Dec 19 2005
County A lifted the first trophy of the season with victory over Fieldside A. It was an intriguing contest with the outcome undecided until the final frame. Richard Tatton got County off to a good start with a win over Bob Chivers. Both players took time for the nerves to settle and this made for a comparatively even first frame, which Tatton eventually secured 65-33. Tatton made a break of 53 in the second frame and took the frame 90-15. Karl Walker levelled the match for Fieldside with a fine performance against a lacklustre Olly Hoeblyn. A well constructed break of 62 helped Walker take the third frame 119-7, while a more modest break of 28 helped him win the next 99-20. With the frame score tied Paul Robinson and Jimmy Ewers both had everything to play for. With Fieldside 84 points to the good on aggregate, Robinson needed to win one frame while Ewers needed to win both. Their first frame was ‘nip and tuck’, but Robinson made some loose shots at a crucial stage and Ewers capitalised to take the frame 67-42. This seemed to settle Ewers and he assumed control of the final frame, winning it 62-23 to claim the match 4-2.
