Tim Bowles set the scene with a 53-22, 48-13 win against
Peter Astall, while
Adam Hingley got the better of
Mick Lomas 62-37, 55-42.
Daniel Brooks completed the rout 56-10, 46-32 against
Mark Clifford.
Morris Motors C enjoyed an opening fixture win with a 4-2 victory over East Oxford Con B. James Griffin had little trouble against Tony Barresi and allowed his opponent just 11 points. Griffin won 60-3, 54-8. Patrick Patten won the third frame 56-34 to claw a frame back for EOC only for Steve Kirkland to reply 54-40 in the next. Julio Barresi gave EOC some hope when he won the 5th frame 42-32, but Bob Hayward steered Morris’s home 44-34 in the final frame.
The name of Cowley Workers made a welcome return to the league after several years absence and faced local rivals Cowley Con C. John Simpson got the Conservative Club off to the best possible start with a 48-24, 48-35 win against Simon Walters. Malachy McAllister got Cowley Workers back in contention when he beat Neil Kirby 50-12 in the third frame, before Kirby restored CCC’s 2 frame advantage. In the fifth frame, Lee McAllister recovered from 18 down to win 48-41 on the black and then took the final frame 71-27 to secure a draw.
