Division Three Report - Wk1
Sep 7 2006
In Division Three, Headington RBL A got off to a fine start with a 5-1 win against Morris Motors A. In the opening frame, Joe Kelly was 22 points up and looked to be on course for victory but Elaine Cox had other ideas and snatched the frame 42-35 on a respotted black. Cox the went on to take the second frame 57-25. Roger Tomlin secured Morris’s only frame of the night when he beat Francis Maplethorpe 55-41, with Maplethorpe taking the fourth frame 52-19. Tony Swatton beat Des Truss 50-26, 53-37 to compound Morris’s woes.

The Motormen’s B team faired rather better, with a resounding 5-1 win over House Club B who were relegated from Division Two last season. Chris Martin got the better of Keith Philpott, 51-39, 52-31, while James Kerr enjoyed similar success with a 58-23, 61-35 win against Paul Larkins. Paul Smith took the next frame 66-15 to make it 5-0 before Mike Augar spared House Club the embarrassment of a whitewash when he won the final frame 51-31.

There was an “in house” battle between Cowley Con A and Cowley Con B, with the A team coming out on top. Keith Pearce beat Chick Wheatley 35-23, 64-36 which was followed by Nick Sudworth’s 51-8, 55-23 win over Guy Baker. Mark Bayliss picked up the 5th frame 63-33 to make it 4-1 only for Arthur Coakley to win the remaining frame 51-27.
