Billiards week 3 report

In the Oxford and District Billiards League Witney A and Oracle A are the only unbeaten teams in the league and remain first and second in Division 1. Both enjoyed good wins this week, over the reigning champions and runners-up, and both won away from home.

Witney A visited County A and won 2-1. Gavin Wright (+20) beat James Thorpe (scr) 200-175 in the opening game, but Jimmy Ewers (scr) levelled the atch beating Chris Warren (+100) 200-165 and making a 41 break. Captain Terry Cook (+30) won the match for Witney A and kept his unbeaten run by beating Olly Hoeblyn (scr) 200-183.

Oracle A went to Thame and beat Thame A 2-1 with newcomer Gorden Cook (+100) making his debut successfully beating Damien Keyte (+100) 100-81. Captain Mark Boyson (+100) levelled for Thame A beating Richard Connerty (+80) 150-140. Ted Milsom (+50) won the match for Oracle beating Martin Cone (-10) 200-177.

At Eynsham, visitors Fieldside A came away with a 2-1 win. Bob Chivers (-40) made breaks of 33 and 34 to beat Geoff Watson (+90) 200-184. Ken Leach (+90) replied for Eynsham A beating Lee Stopps (+70) 150-126. It was left to captain Paul Robinson (-20) to win the match for Fieldside which he did, making a 39 break to beat Roy Gascoyne (+110) 200-168.

Thame B are now second in Division 2 after their 3-0 win over Cowley Con B. Arthur Jones (+110) beat John Simpson (+40) 200-108. Tom Fletcher (+80) beat last week's hero Ken Olive (+60) 150-127 and Nigel Bossom (+60) beat Brian Mabbutt (+10) in a nail biting finish 200-198.

Headington Con A who lead Division 2 suffered their first defeat going down 2-1 to Morris Motors A. Captain John Williams (+80) kept his unbeaten run when he beat Doug Baker (+60) 150-88 in the third game. Earlier Roger Tomlin (+50) beat Terry Walsh (+80) 150-129 and Bob Hayward (+60) beat Tony Palmer (+100) 150-112.

Ashton A enjoyed a 3-0 win over visitors Cowley Con A who have yet to score a win. Pete Fenn (+80) played very consistently to beat Dick Hashman (-20) very comfortably 200-97. Keith Maskens (+60) hung on to beat Arthur Coakley (+90) 150-147 and then Terry Chambers (-10) beat Keith Pearce (+60) 200-163.

After three weeks only two players remain unbeaten after playing in all three matches. They are Terry Cook (+30) from Witney A and John Williams (+80) from Headington Con A. This week's highest break was a 41 from Jimmy Ewers of County A and a 39 by Paul Robinson of Fieldside A.
