Division Four Report - Wk7
Oct 16 2006
Eynsham B remain top of the Division after an emphatic 5-1 win against Ashton B. Eynsham were 4-0 up through Adam Hingley who beat Anthony Marshall 54-31, 57-19, Allan Blackwell who beat Kevin Leach 58-38, 59-38. When Tim Bowles beat Mark Woodward 69-41 in the fifth frame a whitewash looked possible, but Woodward had other ideas and came through to take the final frame 46-30.

Julio Barresi of East Oxford Con B increased the Fourth Division highest break to 41 in the final frame of their match against Cowley Workers A. Darren Murray put Workers 2-0 up thanks to a 40-17, 55-34 win against Tony Barresi. Gary Winkfield then beat Malachy McAllister 42-10, 59-31 to level things for EOC. Lee McAllister put Workers back in front when he took the fifth frame 46-26 only for Julio to hit form and his break in the final frame.

Having surrendered their 100% record last week, Morris Motors C came within an ace of losing again this week, only avoiding defeat to Ashton B because of an “in off” on the final black of the final frame. James Griffin gave Morris’s the lead when he won the first frame 49-45 on the black only for Anthony Marshall to destroy Griffin 77-19 in frame two. Kevin Leach put Ashton 3-1 up when he beat Steve Kirkland 68-61 (black ball frame), 65-37. Morris’s Bob Hayward beat Mark Baird 81-19 in the fifth frame to reduce the arrears. In the final frame, Baird was 61-57 down and looked to have snatched victory when he cut the final black into one of the top pockets, only to see the cue ball fall into the right centre pocket to hand the frame and ultimately a draw to the Motormen.

Cherwell B remain rooted to the bottom of the table following their 5th straight defeat, this time 4-2 to Cowley Con C. Cherwell’s frames came from Peter Astall and Mark Clifford who picked up one frame each against Brian Mabbutt and Ken Olive respectively, but Mick Lomas was out of luck against Neil Kirby.
