Oracle A (last season’s C team in Division 3) got their season off to a steady start against
Witney D.
Clive Burnett gave put
Witney ahead when he beat
Matty Bramall 66-21 in the opening frame, but Bramall replied to win the second frame 67-36.
Richard Saunders looked to have the third frame won, but was edged out 52-44 by
Julian Marks who cleared the last three colours. Marks then claimed the fourth frame 57-36 to put
Witney 3-1 ahead. A break of 25 helped
Jamie Saczak beat
Phil Smith 73-44 to make it 3-2, before levelling the match with a 49-37 win in the final frame.
Abingdon Con A and Riley D also fought out a draw with all six players winning a frame in a see-saw match. Kevin Broughton took the opening frame 49-37 to put Abingdon ahead before Andy Toole took the next 41-30. Robert Adkins won the third frame 72-34 to give Riley’s the lead only for Fred Brett to claim the fourth frame 46-37. Riley’s went back in when Wayne Reddy’s took the penultimate frame 49-36, but Bill Cook ensured the match ended all square by taking the final frame 41-32.
It was not such a good evening for Abingdon Con’s B team who succumbed to a 6-0 defeat against Eynsham A. Gerry Clapton put up a good fight against Lawrence Parsons and was unlucky to lose the first frame 57-50. Parsons took their second frame 56-21. Bob Thiele made it 4-0 with a 57-40, 60-23 win against L Dick, while Peter Miller was shown little mercy by Richard Partlett who took the remaining frames 55-6, 59-11.
