SIMONDS CUP
Oct 31 2005
League action took a back seat this week in favour of cup action with the first rounds of the Simonds and Sherlock team cups.

In the Simonds Cup, Witney A came from 2 frames down to beat their C team counterparts, 4-2. Lewis Calcutt, playing in his first match of the season, got the C team off to a good start, beating Chris Warren in the first two frames. Justin Buckingham brought the A side level with an easy win against Colin Adams with Gavin Wright rounding things off with victory over Colin Cutler.

Division Two sides Riley D and House Club B, contested a closely fought match with the outcome uncertain till the last frame. Andrew Toole beat Keith Philpott 56-28 in the first frame to open the scoring for the home side but Philpott replied to win the second frame by a single point. Mike Auger then put House Club two frames to one ahead with a 77-42 win in frame three. But back came Riley's, Robert Adkins taking the 4th frame 59-27. Two all in frames and Riley's 24 points up on aggregate. Paul Larkins took the fifth frame 76-57 to put House Club in front on frames, meaning that Greg Moyses had to win the last frame to secure an aggregate points victory for Riley's. He duly obliged 53-13.

By contrast, Riley C had no difficulty against Thame C. James Stone opened with a 44-30, 72-17 win against Tom Fletcher. Chris Stone extended the lead with a single point win against Dave White in the third frame. Riley’s passage to the second round was completed in the very next frame, Stone taking it 85-9. Although there was nothing riding on the last two frames, Andy MacBryan and Nigel Bossom played them out, Macbryan taking the fifth frame and Bossom the last.

As at the date of this report results were still awaited for the remaining matches in this round.
