Division Three Report - Wk10
Nov 6 2006
Division Three leaders Cowley Con A slipped up big time, going down 5-1 at home to local rivals Morris Motors A, who move out of the relegation places. Cowley’s only frame winner was Laurie Tucker who made a welcome return to action after a long absence from the league. Tucker narrowly lost the first frame to Doug Baker by two points before coming back strongly to win the second frame. Morris’s then assumed control, Des Truss got the better of Keith Pearce, before Tony Baker wrapped things up against Arthur Coakley. Frame Scores: L Tucker v D Baker 44-46, 68-21; K Pearce v D Truss 31-54, 27-56; A Coakley v T Baker 19-48, 23-38.

Headington RBL A stay in second place, but let a 3-0 lead slip against House Club B who are now in third spot. Francis Mapplethorpe got the better of Keith Philpott in two tight frames to put Headington ahead before Elaine Cox made it 3-0. House Club’s fightback began with Paul Larkins who beat Cox in the 4th frame before Mike Augar completed House Club’s revival by winning both his frames against Brian Simmonds. Frame Scores: K Philpott v F Mapplethorpe 39-58, 45-47; P Larkins v E Cox 34-57, 61-48, M Augar v B Simmonds 49-21, 50-35.

Morris Motors B drew for the sixth time in 8 matches, this time against Thame B. Dave White made the most of Ian Dibley’s rather generous mood and took his first ‘pair’ of the season to put Thame 2-0 up. Tom Fletcher looked to have stretched Thame’s lead in the third, but a storming finish saw James Kerr pip Fletcher on the black. Fletchers then exacted revenge by allowing Kerr just 9 points in the fourth frame. Nigel Bossom, normally a reliable anchorman for Thame, found the going tough and slipped to a rare defeat at the hands of Paul Smith and the match ended all square. Frame Scores: I Dibley v D White 20-64, 20-55; J Kerr v T Fletcher 58-47, 9-50; P Smith v N Bossom 45-23, 59-24.
