Leaders Witney A are setting a hot pace after another 3-0 maximum win, their vistims this week being Morris Motors A. They now have 21 points. Oracle A are second with 18 after their 2-1 win over Thame B, with Thame A third on 16. Their match against Headington Con A was postponed. Champions County A are rapidly coming back after their 3-0 win over Ashton A and are tied in fourth place with Fieldside A on 14 points, but they have a game in hand.

Headington Con A lead division 2 with 15 points and have a game in hand. Thame B who are second also have a game in hand are tied with Cowley Con B and Ashton A all on 12 points.

Witney A's 3-0 win over Morris Motors A was quite decisive. Chris Warren (+100) beat Roger Tomlin (+50) 150-101. Terry Cook (+30) beat Bob Hayward (+60) 200-186 and Gavin Wright (+20) beat Doug Baker (+60) 200-135 making a 41 break. Doug replied with a 26.

County A crushed Ashton A 3-0. James Thorpe (scr) made a 37 break and beat Pete Fenn (+80) 200-167. Lewis Bland (+100) beat Keith Maskens (+60) 150-100 and Jimmy Ewers (scr) beat Terry Chambers 200-172.

Cowley Con B overcame Eynsham 3-0, but it was a very close finish. Brian Mabbutt (+10) beat Michael McCluskey (+90) 200-190. John Simpson (+40) beat Ken Leach (+90) 200-120 and Colin Simpson (+60) won in a nail biting finish against Roy Gascoyne (+110) by 150-148.

Oracle A beat Thame B 2-1 despite losing the opening game when Tom Fletcher (+80) beat Ted Milsom (+50) 150-107. Richard Connerty (+80) levelled the match beating Arthur Jones (+110) 150-135 and then Jack Woods (+90) won the match for Oracle A beating Peter Hawkes (+110) 150-110. This was Jack's third consecutive win.

The shock of the week must surely be Cowley Con A who are bottom of division 2 with only 6 points beating division one contenders Fieldside A, at Fieldside, 2-1. Dick Hashman (-20) set the ball rolling beating Mike Chapman (+100) 200-193 helped by a 31 break. Paul Robinson (-20) then continued his magnificent form for Fieldside A, winning his eighth consecutive game, against Arthur Coakley (+90) 200-188 and making breaks of 40 and 30 to level the match. But Keith Pearce (+60) returned to winning form after a depressing run decisicively beating Bob Chivers (-40) 200-109 to give Cowley Con A a 2-1 win, only their second win so far this season, but they are still bottom of division two!
