Billiards week 4 report
Oct 5 2005
New leaders are emerging each week. Unfortunately, with two postponed games, both in Division 1, it is not a true reflection.

Oracle A maintain their unbeaten run and are now top of Division 1 with 8 points after four matches. Witney A drop to second place but have a game in hand, with Morris Motors A joining them, both with 7 points.

The real surprise is in Division 2 where Thame B have shot to the top after their second successive 3-0 win, this week over last week's leaders Headington Con A. They are certainly flying. Arthur Jones (+110) celebrated his 84th birthday by beating Geoff Barrett (+100) 100-87 and remans unbeaten after two outings. Tom Fletcher (+80) recorded his third win by beating Terry Walsh (+80) 150-105 making a 29 break. But their star player must be Nigel Bossom (+60) who won his fourth successive game beating John Williams (+80) 150-142 and ending John's unbeaten run.

Oracle A's 2-1 win was over Cowley Con B. They lost the opening game when Brian Mabbutt (+10) beat Ted Milsom (+50) 200-176. But Richard Connerty (+80) levelled by beating Colin Simpson (+50) 150-89 and then Jack Woods (+90) won the match for Oracle A beating Ken Olive (+60) 150-93 with Jack unbeaten in his two outings.

Morris Motors A won their third successive match beating Ashton A 2-1. Roger Tomlin (+50) beat Keith Maskens (+60) 150-144, Roger's third successive win. Bob Hayward (+60) then gave Morris Motors a winning 2-0 lead beating Pete Fenn (+80) 150-129, giving Bob his third win. But captain Terry Chambers (-10) got Ashton A a valuable point when he beat Justin Shepherd (+30) 200-129. This was Justin's first match this season and for a new team as well. His former team was at New Club.

Cowley Con A notched up their first win of the season when they beat Eynsham A 2-1. Dick Hashman got them off to an encouraging start when he beat Michael McCluskey (+90) 200-145 making useful breaks of 32 and 45. Geoff Watson (+90) levelled for Eynsham A by beating Arthur Coakley (+90) 150-107. But in the decider Keith Pearce (+60) won the match for Cowley Con A beating Roy Gascoyne (+110) 150-120.

The postponed matches this week were Witney A v Thame A and Fieldside A v County A.

The highest breaks this week were 45 by Dick Hashman, 29 by Tom Fletcher and a 22 by Terry Walsh.
