Division One Report - Wk7
Oct 16 2006
Division One is currently the most keenly contested division with 1 point separating the top four and only 5 separating the top placed team from the bottom one. The leading pair are both on 19 points with Riley C currently ahead of Woodstock A because Riley have only lost once to Woodstock’s twice. Riley’s week 7 result had not arrived in time for this report, but Woodstock recorded a 4-2 win at home to Witney B. The opening frame was a tight, low scoring frame between Stuart Reeve (Woodstock) and Simon Barker (Witney) and was eventually won 37-34 by Barker. The result of the second frame was more clear cut, with Reeve taking it 60-28. Woodstock went 3-1 up after Justin Page had got the better of Lee Stevens 54-43, 62-29 although Stevens did manage a break of 25. Stephen Hedges pulled things back to 3-2 when he won the fifth frame of the night 62-38, but Hazell replied to take the final frame 61-10 (24 break Hazell).

After languishing at the bottom of the table, New Club A have found some form and now find themselves 1 point behind the leading pair after a frantic 4-2 win against Cherwell A. Ian Gee put New Club 2-0 up with a 53-46, 54-39 win against Ray Benwell, with the opening frame decided on a re-spotted black. Justin Shepherd made it 4-0 to New Club when he beat Steve Benwell 49-42, 56-16. The first of those frames was also decided on a re-spotted black. With the match already lost, Andy Benwell gave Cherwell something to cheer when he beat Alan Mander 59-27, 57-50 with the final frame also won on a re-spot!

In a rearranged match, New Club drew with Witney C, with the highlight being a 53 break by Paul Chester.
